He had previously been a freelance contributor to mental_floss, was one of the original editors of pop culture blog YesButNoButYes, and was a mediocre copywriter for several New York ad agencies. The first advertising campaign he ever worked on won a Clio Award—the Grammy of advertising. The second was widely criticized for promoting child obesity.
